Yemen Geographic Outline

Yemen is located in the south-western corner of the Arabian Peninsula, between latitude 12° & 19° and longitude 42° & 53°, in the Southwestern part of continent of Asia.
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is situated in the North of Yemen, Sultanate of Oman is in the east, Gulf of Aden, the Indian Ocean & Arabian Sea in south and by the Red Sea in the west.
The country is covered by mountains in the central and northern parts, by coastal lowlands in the west. The Northeastern area of the country is semi desert plateau.
AREA: The total area is 555,000 sq. km.
POPULATION:The population of Yemen is (20.700.000) according to the last census.
GOVERNMENT: Yemen has Republican and Democratic system, where there are Presidential & Parliament elections.
THE OFFICIAL LANGUAGE:Arabic is the official language, the English language is the second language.
RELIGION:Islam is the official religion, all Yemeni people are Muslems except a Jewish minority live near of Sa’ada Town.
THE CLIMATE
Yemen is divided into 3 main regions: -
  1. The Mountainous regions:

  2. It's located in the middle of Yemen to the Western side and it consist of Mountains chain and it goes all along from the North-west to the South-west, it contains (Sana'a, Taiz, Ibb, Al-Biadah, Radaa, Hajjah, Manakha, Mahwit, Sa'ada, Shahara... etc).
  3. Coastal region:

  4. Includes the coasts plain of Tihama level land on the Red Sea, Gulf of Aden, Arabian Sea and the Indian Ocean, it is linked to each other forming a coastal strip of about 2500 km.
  5. Desert & Wadi Hadramout regions:

  6. It is located in the east Yemen and it includes Marib, Al-Ruba Al-Khaly desert (the Empty Square desert) and Wadi Hadramout (Seiy'un, Shibam Hadramout, Tarim & Wadi Doan).
TEMPERATURE AND CLIMATE:
  1. From the first of month of October until the end of month of February:-

    • In the Mountainous regions, the temperature is mild during the daytime & it is cold during the nighttime & the early morning.
    • In the coastal region, the temperature is mild during the daytime & the nighttime.
    • In the desert region & Wadi Hadramout, the temperature is mild during the daytime & it is little cold at nighttime & at early morning especially in the desert.

  2. From the beginning of March until the end of month of April:-

    • In the Mountainous regions, the temperature & the climate are mild during the daytime & at nighttime with rainfall expectation.
    • In the coastal region, the temperature is mild during the early morning & at nighttime, it's little hot within the daytime with rainfall expectation.
    • In the Desert & Wadi Hadramout regions, the temperature is mild during the early morning & at nighttime, it's little hot within the daytime.

  3. From the beginning of May until the end of September:-

    • In the Mountainous region, the temperature & the climate are mild during the daytime & at nighttime with rainfall expectation.
    • In the coastal region, the temperature is very hot during the daytime & it's mild at nighttime with rainfall expectation.
    • In the Desert region & Wadi Hadramout, the temperature is very hot during the daytime & it's mild at nighttime with rainfall expectation.

Dear tourist, if you would like to visit Yemen within the summer time, we advice you to bring with you Suntan Cream, raincoat, the suitable and light cloths.
